I am a French citizen. I studied art in Paris at the Sorbonne from 1983 to 1989 and graduated with a degree in " les arts plastiques". I spent the last two of those years in school studying 20th century American art, unaware that a year later I would start a new chapter of my life in the USA.
In 1990, I moved to Ossining, in the NY city metropolitan area to live with my companion, and later wife, Lauren. At this time, I struggled with culture shock in ever-boring suburbia. This period of my life and work was really about transition and digestion. At the same time I had a few jobs tutoring, selling wine, substitute teaching and cooking for catering businesses.
I mostly did abstract paintings using collages mixing found objects and paint, my work became more tri-dimensional. Later with the use of different techniques of modeling, mold making and casting with plaster and resin I started to find a way for my own experience.
Overall, my body of work grew, influenced by American art of the late 20 th century, the Arte Povera, and the New Realist movements for my European roots.
Since moving to San Francisco in 1995, I have been able to dedicate most of my time to my art work, with the support of my spouse, as well as of artists and friends from this original and progressive city.
I am interested in fragility, balance and rupture, mouth watering and indecisive situations. I wish to give the spectator a sensitive experience of those fleeting moments.
